Nikon Coolscan replacement mirror

These are new high-quality optical first surface mirrors for use in Nikon Coolscan scanners. If your scans suffer from low contrast, blotchiness, lines or anything else which looks off chance is that your mirror is dirty or degraded. Cleaning it is hard, they’re easy to scratch. Even if it’s clean as a whistle, scratches will degrade the scan image. Coolscans haven’t been made since 2004, and Nikon stopped providing spare parts for them around 2010. That aside, they’re hands down the best scanners you can get if you want to scan at home. I even use a V ED in the lab for the high-res scan options!

These replacement mirrors measure 24x20x3mm for the 35mm models, and 70x29x5mm for the 120 models. They’re made with a 94%+ reflective aluminium coating like the originals, and sealed with blue protective tape to protect them during shipping. Mirror replacement is fairly easy, you can find instructions on how to reach the mirror here (40/4000/50/5000) or here (8000/9000). It’s a 10-minute job: pop it open, remove the old mirror, drop in the new one, and continue scanning. The difference is day and night if your Coolscan mirror was dirty before.
Pro tip: while you’re at it, clean the rails of your scanner and blow out any dust you can spot.

TL;DR

• A brand-new high quality 94% reflective first-surface Coolscan replacement mirror, equal to or even better than the original part. Sealed with blue protective tape to prevent scratching during transport. Same type of mirror as my Peak focuser replacement mirror!
• Do not touch the mirror, ever. If you get any dust particles or w/e on it, blow them away with a rocket blower. If you really need to clean it, use the rocket blower first, then use lens paper with ample lens cleaning fluid.
