Description
Color Developer 3 (N-ethyl-N-(2-methanesulfonamidoethyl)-2-methyl-1,4-phenylenediamine sesquisulfate monohydrate, C24H48N6O16S5, MW 837.0 g/mol, CAS number 24567-76-8 or 25646-71-3) is the main color developing compound in ECN-2, E-6 and RA-4. During color development, oxidized CD-3 reacts with the color couplers in the photographic emulsion to form the dyes that produce the color image.
I only stock photo-grade CD-3 which I use in my own lab and kits!
Storage
Store CD-3 cool, dry, and preferably protected from light. The sesquisulfate form is very shelf-stable when kept dry, so keeping moisture out is the most important consideration. Fresh CD-3 is typically straw to pale yellow in appearance. A noticeable shift toward pink, red, or purple (like the color you see when you wash out your film after development) indicates oxidation and is a sign that the material has degraded.
Keep the container tightly sealed when not in use and avoid introducing moisture when measuring out the powder.
