D-96 black-and white cine developer

Description

NBTG’s home-made D-96 developer, now for home use! The developer of choice for black-and-white motion stocks such as Eastman Double-X (Cinestill bwXX), Ferrania P30 and Orwo UN54.

Formulated according to the official Kodak documentation (Processing KODAK Motion Picure Films, module 15), this kit makes either:

• 1 liter of D-96 developer, good for 10 rolls of 35mm/120 film
• 600ml, good for about 6-7 rolls. Perfect for a 5-reel Jobo 1550 tank
• 500ml, good for 5 rolls. 500ml is the perfect amount for filling a 2-reel Paterson tank! Or split the kit in half for two batches to use with a  2-reel Jobo 1510.

Easy to use! Comes in a single bag:

1. get some hot water (50°C): use 3/4th of your final volume for mixing,
2. mix in the bag,
3. add more water to obtain the required amount of developer,
4. wait for the solution to cool down and
5. develop your film. For times, refer to the Massive Dev chart.

Notes

• If you don’t want to dev it yourself, I can also develop your film for you in D-96!
• The kit does not come with fixer, but you can use any old B/W fixer.
• Some of the chemicals need a little coercing in order to dissolve. Hydroquinone and borax come in their crystalline form, so crushing them with a chemical mixer helps.
• Mixed developer stays good for about 2 months when stored in a dark bottle, without air.
• Like ECN-2, D-96 is formulated for use in continuous transport machines. You’ll get excellent results with rotary processing, but manual agitation also works fine.
